Suleika Jaouad

WRITER, CANCER SURVIVOR, AND AUTHOR, BETWEEN TWO KINGDOMS: WHAT ALMOST DYING TAUGHT ME ABOUT LIVING

New York City

Suleika shares the secret to thriving in the wake of illness.

Suleika is an Emmy-winning journalist, advocate, and cancer survivor. Her debut memoir, Between Two Kingdoms: What Almost Dying Taught Me About Living is based on her acclaimed New York Times “Life, Interrupted” column, which chronicled her journey with leukemia throughout her twenties.

Shortly after graduating with highest honors from Princeton University, Suleika’s career aspirations as a war correspondent were cut short when she was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome and acute myeloid leukemia. After nearly four years of chemotherapy, a clinical trial, and a bone marrow transplant, she is now in remission. She has since become a fierce advocate for those living with illness and chronic pain. She served on Barack Obama's Presidential Cancer Panel, and sits on the national advisory boards of Family Reach and The Bone Marrow Foundation.
