Elizabeth argues that climate action should make us happy.
Dr. Elizabeth Dunn is a professor in the department of psychology at the University of British Columbia, the chief scientist of Happy Money, a Los-Angeles based fintech company, and the co-author of Happy Money: The Science of Happier Spending. An avid fan of outdoor activities from surfing to skiing, Elizabeth believes that approaching climate change through a happiness lens, can be the way to re-think habits that have been making us miserable.
With a PhD from the University of Virginia, and an undergraduate degree from Harvard, Elizabeth conducts experimental research on happiness, exploring how people can optimize their use of time, money, and technology to promote well-being.
In 2010, she received a New Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, as well as UBC’s Robert E. Knox Master Teacher Award. Her academic work has appeared in top journals, including three papers in Science. Her research has been featured in hundreds of media outlets around the world, from NPR to the BBC, and she has contributed op-eds to major newspapers, including the New YorkTimes.
