Beowulf looks into the souls of writers as if they were open books.
A photographer of leading figures from the worlds of arts, entertainment, and the humanities, Beowulf recently published his first book, Author: The Portraits of Beowulf Sheehan (Black Dog & Leventhal, an imprint of Hachette Book Group, 2018).
His childhood love of stories and music evolved into a mature love of storytellers, which ultimately led him to study photography at New York University and the International Center of Photography. In addition to his work with famous faces of the stage and screen, he has photographed those who work behind the scenes as well, including more than 800 biographers, journalists, novelists, poets, and playwrights from more than 50 countries.
His work has been published and exhibited around the globe, including in Elle, Esquire, The New Yorker, Newsweek, Time, Vanity Fair, and Vogue and at the Dostoevsky Museum, the International Center of Photography, the Museum of the City of New York, and Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
